Sustainable, barrier-free and plenty of space for the researchers, teaching staff and employees of the Mathematics Department at Kiel University (CAU): the new three-storey building was constructed in just 22 months of planning and construction time on the edge of the Kiel Science Park and is a further building block in the CAU’s campus development.

The modern and functional building offers space for 72 offices, 121 workstations for staff and up to 110 workstations for students as well as two lecture halls and four seminar rooms for a total of 260 people. The specialist library of the Department of Mathematics and the Institute of Computer Science will also be located in the building in future.

On the facade, classic red clinker brick is combined with olive-grey aluminum facade panels, which provide additional visual structure to the generous rows of windows in the same colour. The facade panels, the on-site aluminium windows and doors as well as the external sun protection systems were finished in RAL 7002, a special color similar to anodized paint, and create a particularly homogeneous effect thanks to their excellent color matching. CONSENS Bautechnik was responsible for the exterior aluminum facades and soffits as well as the interior aluminum cladding in the entrance area of the new building.
