Consens wins the contract to erect the metal facade of the new power-to-heat plant in Wedel
Converting surplus wind power into district heating – the new power-to-heat plant in Wedel with an output of 80 megawatts will be able to supply around 27,000 residential units with district heating in future.
The shell of the plant on the Wedel power plant site, located directly on the outskirts of Hamburg on the Lower Elbe, has already been completed; commissioning is planned for the 2022/2023 heating period. The use of the plant will save up to 100,000 tons of CO2 per year from 2023. This makes the power-to-heat plant (P2H) in Wedel one of the largest wind power-to-heat plants of its kind in Germany. The investment costs for the plant and its connection to the electricity transmission grid amount to around 31.5 million euros.
The design of the exterior facade of the approx. 54 x 20 x 16 meter (L x W x H) plant will blend in with the appearance of the existing HKW Wedel power plant and will be executed with trapezoidal profiles made of 1.00 mm aluminum on the one hand and 3.00 mm aluminum cassettes in azure blue on the other. Consens is responsible for the execution of the complete exterior facade.
