Unique in its design and particularly challenging in its technical implementation: the facade work on the elbcube in Wedel presented us with major challenges. The result: a modern facade that shines with a combination of large-scale mullion-transom facades and striking frames made of rounded Alucobond sheets.
A special feature of this project is the shape of the five buildings – in the final stage of construction – which are more or less cube-shaped depending on the number of storeys and are characterized by radially rounded building edges and corners. The vertical building edges, rounded to a radius of exactly 1,000 mm, end at the four upper corners of the building in a three-dimensionally rounded corner, which has been designed as an octagonal sphere and connects two horizontal roof edges with a vertical building edge in a form-fitting manner.
In addition to the rounded edges and corners, the structural design and the installation of the projecting substructure on highly reinforced prefabricated concrete supports was a challenge in terms of planning and construction, which was a real challenge in terms of the anchoring of the VCW, which was coordinated with the position of the steel reinforcement.
Modern and functional – this is the completed 7-storey main building of the elbcube, in the newly developed business park in Wedel, directly on the Elbe. This is where industrial history and modern business meet in close proximity.
